Careers and a major or minor in religious studies
What
can you do with a major or minor in religious studies? Students
choose to study religion for a variety of reasons. In some cases, they seek to
serve in professional roles within their religious community. Some are
interested in the academic study of religion and plan to pursue graduate
studies in the field at a major university. Others are interested in the
discussion of ideas and values that take place in the study of religion. They
may eventually enter careers in a variety of areas that call for the ability to
communicate orally and in writing, capability to think critically and
compassionately and the desire to serve their communities. Current graduates
are involved in careers as Catholic priests, Protestant ministers or in
Catholic/Protestant lay ministry, religious education, parish
administration, social service, law, government and business. Several currently
are pursuing graduate studies in the academic study of religion in preparation
for teaching in college or university programs.
Saint
Martin's offers small class sizes, rigorous education and a close working
relationship with outstanding professors and scholars.
