Position title: Data Administrator
Reports to: Associate Vice President of Integrated
Collaborates with the MIS team to design data models, data definitions, and reporting services. Responsible for the design, development and implementation of the reporting required to support University operations. Participates in data integration strategy, including planning, development and implementation. Identifies common data and associated relationships, resolves data definition and ownership issues, and ensures data integrity. Coordinates process to develop data standards policy to improve data accuracy, integration, access and integrity. Provides technical support, analysis and solutions to staff, faculty and students (end users) using the University's databases and report development tools.
Mission and strategic plan
This position supports the efforts of SMU staff and faculty in their efforts to increase enrollment, advise students, and improve alumni relationships. This will be accomplished through focused business process analysis, information management and information analysis.
Level of supervision and supervisory responsibility
General Supervision: The employee carries out recurring assignments without
specific instruction. The supervisor intercedes and provides direction for only
new or unusual problems which involve deviations from normal policies,
procedures and work methods. The employee’s work is reviewed upon completion and
only periodically to verify compliance with policies and procedures.
Responsibilities and essential functions
- Develop SQL Reporting Service reports and oversee the functioning of the university report server. Assist end users in all aspects of reporting, including development of reports using SunGardHE PowerCAMPUS reporting tools, SSIS solutions, and SQL Reporting Services. Monitor report delivery and security.
- Collaborate with MIS team in the maintenance of settings and processes in the university’s student information systems and enterprise systems with an emphasis on data standards and consistency.
- Document and diagram business processes and solutions. Develop and maintain up-to-date documentation in the university's knowledgebase.
- Communicate with and participate in technology planning with other university staff. Analyze needs, propose and develop solutions.
- Facilitate and participate in the testing/debugging of system upgrades and new functionality. Diagnose and resolve problems occurring in multiple software and database platforms.
- Other related duties as assigned.
- Possess a "big picture" understanding of the University's business needs, processes and departments.
- Ability and willingness to participate in training to maintain and expand knowledge of Ellucian PowerCAMPUS, Ellucian Self-Service, and other applications and skills needed to perform duties.
- Demonstrated ability to initiate, manage, and complete projects within required deadlines.
- Ability to manage a complex workload and set priorities based on established goals.
- Ability to work collaboratively and collegially with faculty and staff in units across the university.
- Experience training others in use of above or related technology.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated self-starter skills with the ability to research, troubleshoot and acquire additional skills.
