SMU pays monthly fixed amount toward employee medical benefit; Employee pays excess

Regular FT/PT Employees  After one year of employment with at least 1000 hours of service; must be at least 21 years of age.  Defined contribution; fully vested once contributions are made.  Contribution may vary annually based on annual budget; (e.g.,  FY05/06 = 8%).  SMU

Sick/Emergency Leave Regular FT/PT Staff Employees Only  1st month after date of hire, unless hired on the 1st.  Then it’s effective immediately.  FT employees, who work 40, or more, hours per week, earn the equivalent of one sick/emergency day per month.

 Any other hours schedule will be pro-rated to equal that equivalent.

PT employees, who are regularly scheduled to work at least 20 hours, but no more than 37.4 hours per week, earn sick/emergency hours on a pro-rata basis.

Tuition Remission  Regular FT/PT Employees  Employee, Spouses and Dependants: 100% after 1 Full Yr. of employment.  Undergraduate Tuition Remission based on FTE status for the employee, spouse and dependent children.

Graduate Tuition Remission applies to employees and their spouses only.

Vacation Leave Regular FT/PT Staff Employees Only 1st month after date of hire, unless hired on the 1st.  Then it’s effective immediately.

Based on a 40 hr/week schedule staff employees accrue vacation as follows:

*1st and 2nd year 6.67 hrs/month

*3rd through 10th year 10.0 hrs/month

*After completion of 10 full years 13.33 hrs/month

Any other weekly hours will be pro-rated to equal that equivalent.
