Dr. Richard B. Hecker (BS/BA, 1981)

The America’s Credit Union Executive Management Team
created the America’s Service Heroes Endowed Scholarship
with additional support from Major Richard B. (Doc)
Hecker, Medical Corps, US Army (Retired).The donors
created this fund to provide financial assistance to
military service members and their families to further
their educational and professional goals through the
Saint Martin’s University extension campus programs. Dr.
Hecker states, “We wanted to provide soldiers a means to
attend Saint Martin’s University.Now we are targeting
wounded warriors and their spouses.”
Dr. Richard B. Hecker (BS/BA, 1981) is a physician
practicing Critical Care Anesthesiology and
Anesthesiology Pain Medicine in San Antonio, Texas. As
an active duty medical Chief Warrant Officer, he entered
Saint Martin’s University through the Fort Lewis
extension campus in 1980. He completed a double major
under the tutelage of Fr. Placidus Reischmann in 1981,
which allowed him to receive a commission within the US
Army Medical Department.In 1982 he was the recipient of
a US Army Health Professions Scholarship that enabled
him to complete his professional medical degree in 1986.
Prior to his military retirement in January 1997, he was
awarded numerous tri-service decorations. He holds the
Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, and an
appointment as a Senior Aviation Medical Examiner with
the Federal Aviation Administration. Dr. Hecker has held
leadership positions at Saint Martin’s University, most
notably as the founder of the President’s Gala, a member
of the President’s Council, and currently as a Trustee
of the University since 2006.
