New Students- information required prior to receiving financial aid:

• Admitted to Saint Martin’s University
• Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • Complete at www.fafsa.ed.gov. (Saint Martin’s University FAFSA code is 003794)
• Any additional documentation as requested by the Financial Aid Office.

Returning Students- information required prior to receiving financial aid:

• Pre register for Fall 2008 classes
• Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • Complete at www.fafsa.ed.gov. (Saint Martin’s University FAFSA code is 003794)
• Verification documents (if selected by the Department of Education).
• Any additional documentation as requested by the Financial Aid Office.

Filing the FAFSA:

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) may be completed online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. The form requires 30 minutes to an hour to complete. It will usually require information from both the student and parent (custodial parents only, including step-parents). Students may begin the form, and save what information has been provided, and then go back at a later date to finish it. If the student and parents have not yet done the current years tax returns, the income information may be estimated off of the prior years return.

Saint Martin’s University will require copies of all tax returns and W2 forms to be provided to our office so that we can verify the information provided on the FAFSA, or to correct estimated information to the actual figures.

Completing the FAFSA Online:

A PIN will be required to sign the FAFSA for both the student and at least one parent completing the form. Instructions on how to apply for the PIN are available at www.pin.ed.gov or through a link from the FAFSA webpage. The PIN must be received before the FAFSA can be saved and accessed again, so be sure to get that first. The PIN that is initially assigned the PIN that will be valid and usable for the entire time a student is in college. The pin will also allow a student access to other information pertaining to financial aid received while in college.

Please note: If the FAFSA is submitted after March 1st your financial aid award be on the following schedule:

3/2/08 - 4/14/08 - lose 25% of institutional grants

4/15/08 - 5/14/08 – lose 40% of institutional grants

5/15/08 or later – lose 50% of institutional grants
