China Study Tour ![]() ![]() ![]() Background For the last 12 years, China has experienced a sustained economic growth of 9% a year. such economic growth is unprecedented in the world. Shanghai's economic growth is even more astounding. it has experienced double digit growth for the last 13 years exceeding the 9% national level. China is Washington State's third largest trade partner after Japan and Canada. In 2004, Washington State's exports to China totaled $2.2 billion. The relationship between Washington State and China will continue to grow in the coming decades. Description The purpose of this faculty-led study tour is to increase students' understanding of the emergent importance of China in global politics, international trade, business, education, entertainment, and environmental issues. The three-credit course consists of meetings and workshops during the Spring Semester. The highlight of the course will be the 10 day tour of Beijing, Shanghai, Xian and/or Hong Kong. Saint Martin's students will have a chance to visit schools, museums, businesses, trade organizations, attend lectures and discussions, and interact with business leaders, U.S. trade representatives and Chinese students.
