Ian Werrett is an associate professor of religious studies at Saint Martin's University. As a scholar of ancient Judaism and the Dead Sea Scrolls, he has worked on ancient manuscripts in Israel and England and has participated in the archaeological excavations of the Byzantine site of Ein Gedi. In addition to his teaching responsibilities at SMU he is also the director of the Spiritual Life Institute, which is an intensive summer program that explores a variety of topics in the field of religious studies.

Werrett earned a B.A. from Saint Martin's College in 1996, a M.A. in Biblical Studies from Trinity Western University in 2000, and a Ph.D. in Biblical Studies and Second Temple Judaism from the University of St. Andrews in 2006. Werrett has lived in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, and is the author of a monograph entitled Ritual Purity and the Dead Sea Scrolls.
