Women’s Soccer: Wildcats defeat Saints
October 29,
2007
Ellensburg, WA – Central Washington posted one goal
in both the first and second halves on their way to a 2-1 victory over
Saint Martin’s Monday afternoon at the CWU Soccer Field.
The Wildcats were first on the board when they
scored in the 38th minute. Michelle Mohn scored off a free kick from 20
yards out. Central’s Kelsey Penn scored what would be the winning goal
at the 68:08 mark getting a pass from Hilary Davidson.
Kayci Donatelli scored the Saints’ only goal in the
81st minute as she banked a shot into the back post.
“Kayci’s goal was really well taken and very good,”
said head coach Rob Walker.
CWU sent 14 shots at the SMU goal in the first
half and just five in the second. The Saints got off a total of 12
shots, six on goal. Breanna Klasen spent all 90 minutes in goal for the
Saints and had five saves on the day.
“You see these kinds of games especially less than
48 hours after you’ve played a hard game and that was really the case
for us today. The first half I think we were still hung-over from the
game at WWU on Saturday. It took us a full half to get going. Central
was unlucky not to have scored a couple of goals, they had a ball or two
hit off the crossbar. We came back in the second half, really fought
back hard and really hit the accelerator in the last 20-25 minutes. We
had a lot of opportunities, we had a ball clear off the line and some
very good crosses,” added Walker.
The Saints will play their final game of the season
this Saturday as they take on Western Oregon University at the RAC.
