Women’s Soccer: Saints fall just short against Otters
October 8, 2007
Lacey, WA – Two timely goals by Cal State Monterey
Bay in the second half were too much for Saint Martin’s to overcome as
the lost 3-2 Monday afternoon at eh Regional Athletic Complex.
Monterey Bay scored first in the game when the
Otters forced SMU goalie Breanna Klasen out of the net allowing Loren
Schofield to recover and get it past her just two minutes in. The Saints
answered back just over a minute later when Trisha Halvorson sent one at
the CSUMB net and through the goalie’s hands to tie the game 1-1. The
score would remain the same through the rest of the half.
The Otters would regain the lead in the 54th minute
when Cassidy Bennett scored off a deflection sending the ball into left
corner of the net. Monterey Bay got the game winning goal at the 68:56
mark when Kyla Flores scored from 10 yards out on an assist from
Courtney Hermann.
Saint Martin’s added one more with ten minutes left
in the game as Jessica Wilson sent a cross to Kayci Donatelli who put it
into the back of the net, but it wasn’t enough as the Otters picked up
the win.
The Saints outshot the Otters 17-13, 13 of those in
the second half. Klasen had four save while CSUMB goalies Stacey Senkle
and Jenya Jawad combined for six.
Saint Martin’s is on the road this Tuesday as the
