Women’s Soccer: Saints lose battle with Wolves

October 7, 2007

Monmouth, OR – A solid battle between Saint Martin’s and Western Oregon ended with the Wolves on the winning side as they beat the Saints 2-1 in double overtime Saturday afternoon at the WOU Soccer Field.

WOU’s Kristie Adkins scored the game winning goal from 15 yards out on a cross from Breanna Lander just over two minutes into the second overtime.

Saint Martin’s scored first in the match on a 10 yard shot from Kandis Jarvis at the 15:49 mark. That gave the Saints a 1-0 lead that they would hold until the second half. Western Oregon tied things up at the 59:10 mark when Lander sent one into the net on a cross from Erica Hibbard.

The Wolves sent 25 shots at the SMU goal, but Saints goalie Breanna Klasen was able pick up 13 saves throughout the contest.

“We were unlucky to give away the game winning goal. We had enough during the match to win a couple times over,” said head coach Rob Walker. “Overall, I thought the effort was very good. We’ve got to keep working on our quality and we can get our business taken care of.”

The Saints return home to face Cal State Monterey Bay in a non-conference match-up Monday afternoon at the RAC.
