Women’s Soccer: Saints unable to hold of Jacks
August 30, 2007
Arcata, CA – Humboldt University scored three goals
in the final thirty minutes to defeat Saint Martin’s 4-2 Thursday in the
Humboldt State Classic.
Humboldt scored first in the game when Kim Carroll
picked up a goal on a short volley off of a free kick by Elissa White in
the 19th minute.
The Saints tied the game at 35:06 when Trisha
Halvorson lofted a ball over the Lumberjacks’ keeper. Amber Pratt would
pick up the assist.
Just five minutes into the second half Saint
Martin’s picked up their second goal to take the lead. Shannon White
picked up a turnover outside of Humboldt’s box and tallied the goal.
60 minutes into the game the Lumberjacks’ offense
kicked into action posting three goals in 10 minutes. Carroll picked up
her second goal of the day at the 60:32 mark on an assist from Allison
Lawrence.
Tisha Cotta then added two goals of her own within a
five minute time span. The first goal came off a rebound and the second
off a cross from Megan Kobler.
"We had a good patch going into halftime and going
into the 2nd half where we actually were looking very sharp. These are
moments that we are trying to frame and put into our playing memory,”
said head coach Rob Walker. “We still have a lot to learn and some
habits that need polishing just a bit more than I would like. Overall
though, our performance on the day is something we will use to build
on.”
The Saints were outshot 14-8 by Humboldt and posted
a total of three saves in the game.
“Tricia Halvorson, Shannon White, Ashley Biral,
Jessica Wilson and Julianna Sackeyfio had a strong game for the Saints,”
added Walker. “Halvorson and White scored their first goals of the
season while Biral, Wilson and Sackeyfio played well 'up the middle'.”
The Saints will face the Argonauts of Notre Dame de
Namur in California Saturday.
