March 25, 2008

Goodyear, AZ – Saint Martin’s women’s golf shot a tournament best 304 in round two to finish in 6th place at the Grand Canyon University Invitational at the Palm Valley Golf Club.

The Saints finished day one with a team total of 325 putting them in 11th place. They battled back on day two with every golfer breaking 80, moving themselves up to 6th overall, their highest finish ever at the GCU Invitational.

“After day one we talked about their expectations of how they could play better and they came out today and played great golf, which was reflected by the fact that they shot a 304,” said head coach Bob Grisham. “This strengthens our opportunity to be a team considered for regional play.”

The Saints were led by Amy Dalzell who finished in 4th place after shooting a two-day total of 150, including a one over par 73 in round one.

“Amy shot a great round on day one. She played extremely well and her game was very consistent,” said Grisham.

Stacie Henden posted a 156 over the two rounds with a 75 for the Saints on day two.

Alexi Coltom shot an 87 in the first round and a career best of 75 in the second round to finish tied for 40th overall. Lauren Roberts also finished tied for 40th with an 85 in round one and a 77 in round two.

Finishing tied for 47th was Babe Prante who shot a 163 for the tournament.

California Baptist and St. Edward’s University finished the tournament tied at 615 apiece with California Baptist earning the tournament victory based on a fifth individual scorer tiebreaker.

The Saints will get ready to take part in the Chico State/Interwest Invitational April 6-8.
