Women’s Golf: Saints eighth after first round at Saint Martin’s Women’s Invitational

Olympia, WA --- The Saint Martin’s women’s golf team
is currently in eighth place after first round play of the 1st annual
Saint Martin’s University women’s golf tournament Monday at the
5801-yard course at Olympia Country and Golf Club.
Eight other teams are competing in the 2-day
tournament; Cal State Chico, Notre Dame de Namur, Spokane Community
College, Cal State-Monterey, Western Washington, Linfield, Concordia,
and Grand Canyon.
The Saints, finishing the day at 373, were paced by
Maria Laraisse (Jr., Agadir, Morocco) who is currently in 11th place
(85). Stacie Henden (So., Allyn, WA) is tied for 20th (89) and Bridgette
Kennedy (So., Olympia, WA) is tied for 30th (92).
Western Washington’s Katja Trygg is the leader after
the first day with a 4-over 79, followed by Katie Leong and Denise
Canadas from Cal State Chico and WWU’s Candice Wagner at 6-over par 81.
Team leaders after the first round include Western
Washington (329), Cal State Chico (331) and Grand Canyon (350).
“We are extremely pleased with the quality of teams
participating in our 1st annual tournament,” said Saint Head Coach Bob
Grisham. “We look forward to the growth of this tournament and hope to
continue hosting the event at The Olympia Country and Golf Club.”
The final round of the tournament will begin
tomorrow morning with the first tee time set for 8:00am.
