Women’s Basketball: Saints earn WBCA honor
July
16, 2008
Atlanta, GA - The Women's Basketball Coaches
Association (WBCA) announced its winners for the 2007-08 Academic Top 25
Team Honor Roll with Saint Martin’s finding itself in eighth overall
among Division II schools with a grade point average of 3.515.
The award, given in NCAA Division I, NCAA Division
II, NCAA Division III, NAIA and Junior College/Community College, awards
teams throughout the nation that carry the highest grade point averages
for the entire season based on the nomination submitted by WBCA-member
head coaches.
"It is certainly an honor to have our team
recognized by the WBCA. This accomplishment reinforces what great
student athletes we have representing Saint Martin's University, both on
and off the court,” said head coach Tim Healy. “The cooperative
commitment to academic and athletic excellence by our administration,
faculty and athletic department allows our students to maximize their
potential as true student athletes."
Saint Martin’s was one of three Great Northwest
Athletic Conference schools to be named to the list, finishing ahead of
Seattle Pacific (19) and Montana State Billings (21).
"I would like to say congratulations to each and
every one of these teams for producing some impressive cumulative grade
point averages," said WBCA CEO Beth Bass. "These numbers would be
notable for one student-athlete alone, but for an entire team to compile
overall GPAs such as this is truly remarkable. I tip my hat to these
programs and wish continued success both on and off the court."
