Volleyball: Saints fall in four
September 12, 2008
Tacoma, WA – Though Pacific Lutheran started off
strong in the first two matches Saint Martin’s proved to be a tough
opponent in the final two matches, but the Lutes were able to hold them
off for the 3-1 win, 14-25, 13-25, 25-22, 25-27, Friday night at the
Olson Auditorium.
The Saints struggled through the first two sets with
just 13 kills, but they turned it around in game three.
After PLU took a 9-4 lead the Saints battled back to
tie it 13-13. An 8-2 run would put SMU up 21-15, the Lutes pulled to
within two but that’s as close as they would get as the Saints picked up
the win.
Saint Martin’s took the lead in the fourth game but
PLU was able to overcome a 19-16 deficit. Tied 25-25, SMU committed
back-to-back attack errors to give the Lutes the game and the match.
Malia Ibarra had 10 kills and 11 digs for the Saints
while Andrea Tarbet added a match high 14 kills. Brianna Bautista had 16
digs and Theresia Dever had 14 along with four aces. Amber Roberts had a
team high 22 assists adding 10 digs.
The Saints are on the road again this week as they
start conference play at Western Oregon September 18th.
