Lacey, WA – Saint Martin’s outhit Hawaii Pacific
University but came out on the losing end, falling 3-1, 19-25, 22-25,
25-20, 17-25, Tuesday night in their home opener.

The Sea Warriors opened up a six point lead in game
one only to see the Saints pulled to within three at 21-18. But two
attack errors by Saint Martin’s and a kill by HPU gave the Sea Warriors
the edge they needed to earn the victory.
Game two was a battle the whole way as neither team
was able to gain a solid advantage. Down by one at 18-17, SMU got a pair
of kills from Nicole Ostlund and a service ace from Amber Roberts to
take the 20-18 lead. Hawaii Pacific then used a 5-0 run to go ahead
23-20 and held off the Saints for the win.
After finding themselves in a 4-0 hole to start out
the third game SMU went on a tear scoring the next nine points. They
would maintain their lead until a kill by Phoebe Hettel put HPU up
17-16. Saint Martin’s answered back yet again, this time with a six
point run, including three aces from Theresia Dever, to put the game
away.
Hawaii Pacific controlled game four, taking a 15-8
advantage and never letting the Saints get within less than four.
Brianna Bautista had a game high 26 digs for the
Saints and Dever had 23. SMU outhit the Sea Warriors 454-38 in the
match.
The Saints are back on the road as they head to
