Volleyball: Saints can’t hold on against Metro State

Hilo, HI - Saint Martin’s took game one but lost the
next three to give Metro State the 3-1 win, 25-21, 14-25, 19-25, 8-25,
on the final day of the Hawaiian Style Classic hosted by the University
of Hawaii at Hilo.
SMU fell behind early in the first game but came
back to tie it 7-7 then took a four point lead on two kills from Kirstyn
Druzianich and two attack errors by the ‘Runners. The Saints maintained
no less then a three point advantage the rest of the way to earn the
win.
Metro lead the entire way through game two quickly
building a five point lead. They would close out the game with a 10-4
run to tie the match at one apiece.
Game three was a battle all the way with both vying
for the lead. Tied 18-18, the ‘Runners put together five to go ahead
23-18. The deficit was just too much for the Saints to overcome.
Metro controlled game four from start to finish as
they held SMU to just eight points on their way to the game and match
victory.
Shealun Campisi and Nicole Ostlund had seven kills
each for Saint Martin’s with Campisi picking up 17 digs. Metro was led
by Bri Morley and Emily Greenhalgh with 14 and 13 kills respectively.
The Saints, who finished the tournament 1-2, will
take part in the Central Washington University Tournament September 5th
and 6th.
