Track and Field: Saints post strong showing at Joe Peyton Meet

Tacoma, WA – Saint Martin’s University established
three new school records and picked up three wins at the Joe Peyton
Track and Field Meet hosted by the University of Puget Sound
Sam Washington led the charge producing two of the
school records and one of the wins. Washington won the men’s shot put
event in a school record, GNAC automatic qualifying distance, currently
the GNAC leading distance, of 48’ 4 ¾”.
Washington also took part in the discus where he
placed sixth with a school record throw of 129’ 7”, also a GNAC
provisional qualifying distance.
The third school record fell when Jill Blake sent
the women’s hammer 105’ 1”. The throw earned her a sixth place finish.
One of SMU’s other wins came from John Riak in the
men’s 5000m.Riak won the race in a GNAC qualifying time of 15:02.93.
Josh Gatbunton accounted for the Saints’ third win
at the meet storming across the line to pick up the win in the 800m in
1:59.01, another provisional GNAC qualifying mark.
Saint Martin’s earned seven other provisional
qualifying marks at the meet including one from Helen Camden who ran the
5000m in 19”08.89, a personal record.
The Saints next meet will be the Huskey Preview Meet
on March 28th in Seattle.
