Softball: Herrick leads Saints to split with Clan

Surrey, B.C. – Jamie Herrick threw a complete game
shutout as the Saints defeated Simon Fraser 4-0 in game one of a
doubleheader before falling 9-4 in the nightcap Saturday at Softball
City.
Herrick allowed seven hits through seven innings
while striking out three and walking two to earn her fourth victory of
eh season.
The Saints took control early with three runs in the
top of the first inning. After loading the bases Kristi Sigafoos hit a
bloop single to right scoring Kristine Kaneshiro. Kirstin Davidson then
singled through the left side to score Lisa Holombo, Holly Morris then
scored on a fielder’s choice.
Kaneshiro added an insurance run in the fourth with
a solo shot to right field. Kaneshiro and Holombo would both finished
the game 3 for 4.
Brandi Klemm helped her cause with a leadoff homerun
in game two in the top of the first but the Clan quickly plated four
runs in their half of the inning capped of by a Meaghan Crumpstone to
give Simon Fraser the 4-1 lead.
The Clan picked up two more runs before SMU got
their second run on a solo homer from Lisa Holombo in the fourth. SFU
answered back with two runs in the bottom half of the inning then added
one more in the fifth.
Saint Martin’s added two runs in the seventh as
Krissy Bassett led off the inning with a single up the middle. Three
batters later Holly Morris came in to pinch hit and connected with one
sending it over the wall in right center to account for the final.
Klemm was handed the loss allowing eight runs on
nine hits through three innings.
