Softball: Saints drop game to WOU
March 2, 2008
Richland, WA – Western Oregon’s Jessica Wood pitched
a three-hit shutout to defeat Saint Martin’s 2-0 in their final game of
the Clarion Hotel CWU Invitational Sunday.
The Wolves got both of their runs in the bottom of
the first on consecutive doubles by Amanda Fleer, Jamie Becker and
Whitney Lee.
Saint Martin’s loaded the bases in the sixth but
couldn’t get a run across as Wood was able to pitch out of the jam.
Wood gave up three hits while walking three and
striking out four. Danni Ballard, Kristi Sigafoos and Alicia Fuchs
accounted for SMU’s three hits with one each.
Jamie Herrick was tagged with the loss pitching 3
2/3 innings and allowing two runs on five hits with two walks and one
strikeout.
The Saints finish the tournament with a 2-5 record
to make their overall season record now 7-11. They will return home this
week with a doubleheader against Northwest Nazarene on Thursday
afternoon.
