Softball: Saints beat Billings, fall to Sonoma

Richland, WA – Saint Martin’s split two games on day
three of the CWU Invitational beating Montana State Billings 4-2 and
losing to Sonoma State 5-2.
The Saints scored first with one run in the second
on a pair of doubles by Holly Morris and Lisa Holombo. MSUB even things
up in the top of the third on a solo homerun by Leslie Davis.
Danni Ballard led off the third with a double and
scored on a bases loaded walk by Holombo. They added an insurance run in
the fourth on a homerun by Alicia Fuchs followed by another homer in the
fifth by Morris.
Brandi Klemm picked up the win allowing two runs on
six hits while striking out four in six innings of work.
Saint Martin’s went up 1-0 against Sonoma courtesy
of a homer to left center by Kristi Sigafoos. The Seawolves struck for a
pair of runs in the bottom of the inning on a double and fielder’s
choice.
Sonoma tacked on three more in the fifth on two hits
and four SMU errors, taking the 5-1 lead. The Saints got one more in the
seventh on an RBI single by Sigafoos but the Seawolves were able to hold
them off.
Brittany Williams earned the win for Sonoma in her 6
1/3 effort. Fuchs was tagged with the loss for Saint Martin’s giving up
two runs and walking four through 3 2/3 innings.
The Saints wrap up play at the invitational tomorrow
taking on Western Oregon.
