Softball: Saints take two from Pioneers

Lacey, WA – Saints Martin’s got solid pitching
performances from starters Cassy South and Jamie Herrick to beat Lewis
and Clark College 7-0 and 7-1 Sunday afternoon at the SMU Softball
Field.
South threw a complete game shutout in game one
allowing just two hits and three walks while striking out three.
The Saints scattered 10 hits in the game scoring
four runs in the third, one in the fourth and their final two in the
bottom of the fifth.
Katee Nauert went three for three with two singles
and a triple picking up two RBIs. Brandi Klemm scored twice in the game
and two runs batted in while Lisa Holombo had two hits and scored a run.
Herrick had a shutout going in game two until
allowing her only run in the top of the seventh on an error. She gave up
just five hits and struck out two.
Saint Martin’s got on the board early with two runs
in the bottom of the first on a two-run homerun by Holly Morris, her
third in the last four games.
They would pick up four more in the fifth on an RBI
single by Katie Payne and bases clearing double by Kirstin Davidson.
Davidson had two hits for the Saints while Morris,
Payne and Herrick accounted for the other three.
SMU, now 5-6 on the season, gets ready to take part
in the CWU Invitational starting Thursday in Richland, WA.
