Softball: Qunell hired as head coach
May 9, 2007
Lacey, WA – Tiffany Qunell has been named the new
head coach for Saint Martin’s University women’s softball as announced
Wednesday by Athletic Director Bob Grisham.
“Tiffany comes in as a young coach who has a great
deal potential to be a very good head coach,” said Grisham. “I am
impressed with her energy, organization and commitment to building and
bringing stability to the softball program.”
Qunell recently completed her first year as interim
head coach for the Saints. It was a tough season for the Saints who
finished with a 4-37 record but the department is confident in the
abilities of both Qunell and the team.
“We’re looking forward to Tiffany moving from
interim to the head coach position. She did a good job assuming the head
coaching responsibilities midseason. I was pleased with the team’s play
and her ability to keep the team focused,” added Grisham.
A graduate of California State University Hayward,
Qunell was a dual-sport athlete during her college career, participating
in basketball and softball. She earned NCAA Freshman-of-the-Year with a
.672 batting average and was a two time all-American.
Qunell holds her bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology,
with an emphasis in Physical Education Teaching and Exercise Physiology
and has an NASM certification. She is currently in the process of
obtaining her master’s degree in Athletic Management.
“Overall this year was a learning experience for me;
I’m going to take it and grow from it,” said Qunell. “I’m really excited
for next year. I’m ready to get in here and get my hands on it. We have
all 10 girls back and we’re going to work hard this summer to get to the
level we want to be at. The off-season is what makes championships
happen.”
