Softball: Saints swept by Vikings

Bellingham, WA – In their final series of the
season, Saint Martin’s lost two close games to Western Washington
University 4-0 and 3-1 Thursday at Viking Field .
The Vikings picked up two runs in the second inning
of game one on a two-run homerun by Meghan Flem. They would add two more
in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Katie Barker and a ground out by Flem.
Tana Lingl allowed just six hits in the game while
walking two and striking out two. Jackie Quint earned the win for the
Vikings holding the Saints to just one hit while striking out 15. The
lone hit came in the seventh when Danni Ballard singled to left.
Both teams combined for just seven hits in game two;
the Saints with two and the Vikings five.
Western scored first posting a two spot in the
second on another two-run homerun this time by Morgan Parkerson. They
tacked on one more in the fifth. Misty Britt led off the inning with a
single and came around to score on a Saint error.
The Saints got their only run in the top of the
fifth taking advantage of two Viking errors. Kristi Sigafoos led off
with a single to left, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored
on two consecutive errors by Western.
The Saints wrap up their season with a 4-37 record
overall and 2-18 in conference play.
