Softball: Wolves rally to sweep Saints

Monmouth, OR – Saint Martin’s fell just short of a
victory in game two against Western Oregon University as the Wolves
scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth to take the 4-3 win.
The Saints were shut out in game one falling 4-0.
The Saints outhit the Wolves 6-4 and Tana Lingl
allowed just two earned runs through six innings but the Saints couldn’t
put anything together in game one.
The Wolves scored their first two runs in the bottom
of the fifth on a two run homer by Melissa Wilson. In the fifth, Amanda
Fleer reached on an error and Trina Dorn sent one over the wall in left
to put the Wolves up by four.
Marlaina Irwin and Holly Morris each picked up two
runs for the Saints while Megan Crager and Kristi Sigafoos each had two.
Saint Martin’s scored first in game two putting up
two runs in the second on a two run shot to right by Sonya Ramos. They
added another run in the fourth on a solo homerun by Crager.
The Wolves cut the Saints lead to one as they got
two in the sixth on a double down the left field line by Krysta
Pennington. With two on and two out in the bottom of the seventh Jamie
Becker singled two right center to score the tying and winning run.
Crager went 2-3 in the game with one RBI and two
runs scored. Irwin, Ramos, Sigafoos, and Kirstin Davidson all had one
hit each.
The Saints get ready to play Simon Fraser at home
this Monday in a non-conference game set for a 3:30pm start time.
