Softball: Saints fall to Wildcats

Lacey, WA – Tana Lingl and Alicia Fuchs gave up a
combined five hits through eight innings as the Saints fell to Central
Washington University 3-2 in game one Thursday at the SMU Softball
Field. The Wildcat offense came alive in game two as Central downed SMU
13-0 in five innings.
The Saints scored first in game one as Megan Crager
hit a solo shot to right in the bottom of the second. Holly Morris led
off the third inning with a home run of her own to put the Saints up
2-0.
Central answered back with two runs in the top of
the fourth on RBI singles by Sara Badgely and Liz Wallace.
The score remained tied through regulation and into
the eighth. With the bases loaded Alyssa Ward drew the walk to bring
home the go-ahead run.
Morris had two hits for the Saints while Kirstin
Davidson, Sonya Ramos, Katee Nauert and Crager each had one.
The Wildcats went on a tear in game two putting up
an eight spot in the second on six hits and three errors including a
bases clearing double by Logan Mohr. CWU would add four more in the
third on a fielder’s choice by Mallory Holtman and a three-run home run
by Kelli Spaulding.
Holtman and Kasey Druffel both went 2-3 with two
singles while Stephanie Burns was 3-3 with two singles, a double and two
RBI.
Katrina Reime threw for CWU and silenced the Saint
bats allowing jus three hits in the game. Morris, Davidson, and Kristi
Sigafoos accounted for one hit each.
Lingl threw just one and a third innings but didn’t
give up an earned run while Fuchs surrendered just one earned run in
three and two-thirds innings.
The Saints play again at home this Saturday against
Northwest Nazarene University, game time set for 12pm.
