Softball: Saints lose two close ones

Lacey, WA – Saint Martin’s softball suffered two
tough losses to the University of Puget Sound, 3-2 and 5-4, Sunday at
the SMU Softball Field.
Puget Sound struck first in game one picking up a
run in the bottom of the first with a bases loaded walk. They added two
more in the fourth on a home run by Kelli Ishii.
The Saints posted two in the bottom of the sixth on
a double by Holly Morris and a single by Marlaina Irwin. Kristi Sigafoos
led off the bottom of the seventh with a base hit but the Saints were
unable to string anything together.
Tana Lingl was hit with the loss while Jessica
Roberts picked up the win for the Loggers. Irwin led the Saints with two
hits.
Game two saw the Loggers again jump out to the early
lead this time with two in the first on a Lindsay Fujita homer.
SMU answered back in the bottom of the inning with
three runs, taking advantage of Logger miscues and an RBI single by
Ryanne Horton. The Saints would pick up one more run in the sixth on a
two out single by Katee Nauert.
UPS rallied for three run in the seventh on five
hits to take a 5-4 lead. The Saints were again unable to put anything
together in the bottom of the inning.
Saint Martin’s got two hits from Horton and one each
from Morris and Nauert. Victoria Raeburn and Annie Buxton each had two
hits for the Loggers.
The Saints get ready to head to California to take
part in the Tournament of Champions Presented by Mizuno at Cal State
Stanislaus March 30-April 1.
