Softball: Saints fall to Northwest Nazarene in final games of season
May 6, 2006
Lacey, WA --- Northwest Nazarene swept a Great
Northwest Athletic Conference softball doubleheader from Saint Martin's
Saturday at Saints Softball Field by scores of 2-1 and 4-1.
The Saints finished the season at 7-38 overall and
3-21 in GNAC action, while Northwest Nazarene improved to 23-28 overall
and 9-15 in conference play.
In the opener, the Saints got their lone run in the
first inning on a homer by Lisa Holombo (Fr., Bonney Lake, WA). The
Crusaders tied the game at 1-1 in the second, when Teri Setbacken drew a
base-on-balls and would score from first on a double to left-center.
Setbacken then drove home the winning run in the sixth when she singled
in Adrian Herman, who had tripled to right field to lead off the inning.
NNU managed just three hits off of Saint Martin's
Carleen Lessard (Jr., Longview, WA). Courtney Cunningham (Fr., Benton
City, WA) had two of the Saints’ four hits.
In the nightcap, the Crusaders played long ball as
three home runs accounted for all four of NNU’s runs; a two-run shot in
the sixth and solo homers in the seventh.
Nicole Hoerner (Fr., Kennewick, WA) singled to drive
in Saint Martin's only run in the fourth.
Tana Lingl (Jr., Auburn, WA) had nine strikeouts and
walked two in suffering the loss.
