April 21, 2006

Ellensburg, WA --- The Saint Martin's University women’s softball team split a Great Northwest Athletic Conference doubleheader with Central Washington University on Friday. The Saints won the opener 4-3 before CWU earned a split with a 12-4 victory in the nightcap.

In the opener, the Saints (6-28, 2-11 GNAC) snapped a 3-3 tie in the eighth on back-to-back doubles by Krishanna Nass (Sr., Scappoose, OR) and Lisa Holombo (Fr., Bonney Lake, WA). CWU (18-19, 8-8 GNAC) had forced extra innings scoring two in the bottom of the seventh on a bases-loaded walk and a bases-loaded hit by pitch.

Nass had three of the Saints' six hits and scored two of their four runs.

Carleen Lessard (Jr., Longview, WA) allowed just five hits in seven innings to record the win for the Saints, while Tana Lingl (Jr., Auburn, WA) earned a save with a hitless eighth.

In the nightcap, SMU jumped ahead 3-0 until the Wildcats tied the game with a three-run homer in the second. CWU then took a 5-4 lead with a two-run homer in the third and later put the game away with a six-run fourth.
