Men’s Soccer: Falcons outscore Saints
October 17,
2007
Seattle, WA – Seattle Pacific got two goals each in
the first and second half on their way to a 4-2 victory over Saint
Martin’s in Great Northwest Athletic Conference men’s soccer action
Tuesday at Interbay Stadium.
The Falcons earned their first goal in the 14th
minute when Corey Sinser used a corner kick to loft it over Saints
keeper Zac Lubin. Brendan Cloyd made it 2-0 when he got a thru ball from
Matt Kemper and slotted it from 15 yards.
“The two goals we gave up to start the game are
indicative of where we are from an experience point of view against a
very well coached and high quality SPU team,” said head coach Rob
Walker.
The Saints would cut the lead in half before the
break as Victor Kelmel rocketed a shot past the SPU goal keeper at the
31:37 mark. Vlad Voin was credited with the assist.
“Victor’s shot was quite magnificent. It was about a
25 yard blast just cranked into the upper corner; it was a great goal,”
added Walker. “We tried to make some adjustments at the half and I
thought the boys played a little better because of that. We had some
high quality minutes, a great deal of those were played with 10
freshmen.”
Seattle Pacific built their lead to 4-1 in the
second half as Alec Nelson sent a shot into the upper left corner off a
rebound. Their final shot came when Jeff Hallenbeck converted a penalty
kick.
Saint Martin’s picked up an own goal in the 77th
minute to account for the final score.
Seattle Pacific got off 15 shots to the Saints five.
Both goalkeepers picked up just one save each for the Falcons and
Saints.
