Men’s Soccer: Lutes down Saints 5-0
September 24,
2007
Parkland, WA – Pacific Lutheran used a balanced
attack to defeat Saint Martin’s 5-0 in non-conference action Monday
afternoon at the PLU Field.
The Lutes picked up their first goal right out of
the gate as Mike Ferguson scored on an assist from Brennan Brown in the
sixth minute. Ferguson would pick up another goal in the second half as
well as an assist.
Ryan Hanna also had two goals for Pacific Lutheran.
He got his first in the 28th minute and added the other late in the
second half. Hanna also had an assist on the day.
The Saints were only able to get off one shot in the
game while PLU fired 19 at the SMU goal. Zac Lubin and T.J. Young each
earned three saves for Saint Martin’s.
“On the day, PLU played well in all areas of the
field. For us, we are looking for the 'light at the end of the tunnel’.
We are continually trying to find our way, before we have a chance to
know the way. This happens when you play a bunch of young men with
potential versus a good team like PLU that has been through their fair
share of tunnels as a team,” said head coach Rob Walker. “The result is
tough to swallow, but we do see bits and pieces coming together every
day in training; it is now time for the next step and we need to carry
that over to the game itself."
Saint Martin’s will be back in action this Saturday
as they take on Western Washington University in a 1 p.m. home game at
the RAC.
