May 13,
2008
Lacey, WA – Kevin Bishop has been hired as the new
Saint Martin’s University men’s golf coach as announced by Athletic
Director Bob Grisham.
“We are pleased with the hiring of Kevin. He brings
an excellent reputation in the golfing community as a teacher, player
and student of the game,” said Grisham. “We believe that Kevin has the
ability to take his strengths and be able to build a competitive team to
compete at the Division II level.”
Bishop, a local product out of North Thurston High
School, has been a PGA golf professional for 30 years. He is currently
the owner and head golf professional at the First Tee of Olympia.
“I’m looking forward to working with these young
people for a long time. My goal is to bring a consistently competitive
and stable environment to the program,” said Bishop. “I hope to build
the program around the respect for the game, if you truly respect the
game of golf you tend to excel at it more.”
A 1975 graduate of Seattle University, Bishop was
the West Coast Athletic Conference Champion during his junior year.
Bishop has also been a four time member of the Senior Hudson Cup
Professional Team and won the Washington PGA Senior Open in 2005.
“I hope to use my past tournament experience and
teaching experience to bring the best out of the players,” said Bishop.
