Men’s Basketball: Saints fall at Western Oregon
March 1, 2008
Monmouth, OR – Western had five players in double
figures on their way to a 86-71 win over Saint Martin’s Saturday night
at the Physical Education Building.
The Wolves built up a 17 point lead in the first
half before the Saints battled their way back to tie it 30-30 with 3:37
to play. But Western Oregon finished out the half with an 11-0 run to
take the 41-30 lead into the break.
Saint Martin’s never got to within less than eight
in the second half.
Jake Linton led the Saints with a game-high 21
points and had four assists. Brendan Campbell added 16 points while Bill
Richardson had 10 points and seven rebounds.
Western Oregon out-rebounded the Saints 43-34,
getting a game-high 13 from Mike McLaughlin.
“We didn’t take good care of the basketball in the
first half and had too many turnovers. The second half we played better
and took better care of the ball but we couldn’t dig out of the hole,”
said head coach Keith Cooper. “We had good balance and good
contributions but turned it over way too much to win against a good team
on the road.”
The Saints, now 12-13 on the year and 7-9 in the
GNAC, are on the road next week as they take on the University of Alaska
Anchorage on Thursday.
