Men’s Basketball: Saints crush Yellowjackets

Billings, MT – Saint Martin’s posted a balanced
offensive attack on their way to a 87-66 over Montana State Billings in
Great Northwest Athletic Conference play Saturday night at Alterowitz
Gym.
Brendan Campbell led the Saints, who improve to
11-11 on the year and 6-7 in conference, with 15 points and seven
rebounds.
The Saints took control in the first half shooting
54.5 percent. A three by Justin Alexander sparked an 18-4 run over the
next five minutes to give SMU the 22-9 lead. SMU would go up by as much
as 22 before settling at 47-26 at the break.
Billings was able to cut the point differential to
15 only to see SMU extend their lead back to 22 at the 9:50 mark. The
Yellowjackets battled back again pulling to within 13 but the Saints
again poured it on getting their lead back to 21 for the win.
Saint Martin’s was 6 of 11 from the arc in the first
half. The two teams were even on the backboards (37-37), but Billings
had twice as many turnovers (24-12).
SMU got 14 points apiece from Jake Linton and Justin
Alexander while Bill Richardson and Blake Poole had 10 each. Poole was 6
for 6 from the field.
Linton made his only two free throw attempts to
extend his GNAC-record string to 48 in a row. He has made 82 of his last
83.
Billings had three players in double figures,
including Aaron Terry who finished with 22 points and eight rebounds.
The Saints are back at home this week, taking on
Seattle Pacific Thursday night at the SMU Pavilion.
