Men’s Basketball: Linton earns GNAC honor, becomes free throw national
leader
February 12, 2007
Lacey, WA – Saint Martin’s Jake Linton received GNAC
Player-of-the-Week honorable mention for his efforts last week as well
as moving into first place in free throw shooting in the NCAA Division
II national statistical report.
He scored 45 points and added 11 assists and seven
steals as the Saints split two games against Central and Western
Washington.
Linton hit a three-pointer with 10 seconds left to
force overtime in SMU’s win over Western Washington. He then made two
free throws with seven seconds left in the extra period to break an
83-83 tie.
Those two free throws were his 38th and 39th
consecutive making him 74 for his last 75. He is now shooting 96.6
percent, good enough to take first from Colorado Christian’s Rory
Morgan. Linton has now missed just four of 119 attempts.
As a team the Saints rank sixth nationally in free
throw percentage at 76.7 percent.
