Men’s Basketball: Saints suffer tough loss to Western Oregon

Lacey, WA – Western Oregon University shot 53
percent on the night and had four players in double figures on their way
to a 76-67 win over Saint Martin’s Saturday night at eh SMU Pavilion.
Western Oregon jumped out to an early 16-7 lead in
the first half. The Saints closed the gap to three with 9:24 to play but
WOU scored the next nine points to go up by 12 and held on to a 14 point
lead at halftime.
Though the Wolves were able to maintain a solid lead
through most of the second half, the Saints were able to pull to within
four points with 5:13 remaining, but Western Oregon quickly answered
with a 9-2 run to secure the win.
While Saint Martin’s forced 23 WOU turnovers they
got beat on the boards 45-30.
The Saints got 21 points from Jake Linton while Bill
Richardson added 20 points and seven rebounds. Blake Poole also had
seven rebounds along with eight points.
“In the second half we settled down and played much
better, we just dug too deep a hole in the first half. We took some good
shots that we missed and we didn’t defend as well as we needed to and
couldn’t get a stop.”
Saint Martin’s, now 4-5 in conference, 9-9 overall,
stays at home next week and takes on Central Washington on Thursday the
7th.
