January
24, 2007
Nampa, ID – Northwest Nazarene University shot 51
percent from the field and held Saint Martin’s to 36 percent on their
way to a 74-57 victory over the Saints Thursday night at the Johnson
Sports Center.
The two kept it close through most of the first half
with neither team able to establish more than a six point lead. With
4:07 left in the half Jake Linton hit a three to tie it 29-29 but NNU
scored the final seven points of the half to take a 36-29 advantage into
the break.
Northwest Nazarene scored 22 of the first 30 points
in the second half to open up their biggest lead of the game at 21
points. SMU would pull to within 10 twice but couldn’t manage to get any
closer.
“We didn’t shoot well the second half. We had to
take some quick shots and tough shots and we didn’t knock them down,”
said head coach Keith Cooper. “Our kids battled right until the end.
They never quit but couldn’t quite get over the hump and get back into
the game.”
Brendan Campbell picked up the games only
double-double leading the Saints with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Bill
Richardson added 12 points on the night.
The Crusaders, now 12-3 overall and 4-2 in GNAC
play, got a game high 23 points from Kendall Gielow. SMU falls to 4-3 in
conference and 9-7 overall.
Saint Martin’s edged out NNU on the boards, 36-33,
but committed more turnovers, 21-19.
The Saints will remain on the road this Saturday as
they travel to Seattle Pacific University to take on the Falcons.
