Men’s Basketball: Saints suffer loss to Wildcats
January 12, 2008
Ellensburg, WA – Jake Linton scored a game high 24
points for Saint Martin’s but it wasn’t enough as the Saints fell to
Central Washington University, 84-71, Saturday night at Nicholson
Pavilion.
Central took the early lead scoring the first seven
points of the game. SMU rallied to take a 15-13 lead. Saint Martin’s
would build their lead to five with 4:25 left in the first half, but a
9-2 run by the Wildcats to close out the half would give them the 35-33
advantage at the break.
CWU opened up the second period with a 10-2 run to
take a double digit lead with 15:41 left. The Saints would get to within
five at the 12:05 mark but that was as close as they would get as CWU
was able to hold them off.
The Wildcats, who went to the line eight times in
the final minute connecting on all of them, were 21 of 29 from the free
throw line and edged out the Saints 41-40 on the boards.
Tyler Nixon picked up his first double-double of the
season with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Brendan Campbell also added 11
points on the night.
Central had four players in double figures including
Jake Beitinger who had a double-double with 19 points and 17 rebounds.
The Saints return home next week to take on Montana
State Billings January 17th at the SMU Pavilion.
