Men’s Basketball: Saints lose to Seawolves
January
5, 2008
Lacey, WA – A hot shooting Alaska Anchorage team was
too much for Saints Martin’s as the Seawolves picked up the 66-42 win
over the Saints in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action Saturday
night at the SMU Pavilion.
The Seawolves took a 3-2 lead on their first
offensive possession and never trailed the rest of the way. UAA built a
34-16 lead going into halftime. UAA was able to stretch their lead to as
much 27 in the second half before finishing with the 66-42 total.
Alaska Anchorage, who extended their winning streak
to nine games, shot 54.9 percent from the field while holding the Saints
to just 37.2 percent.
Tyler Nixon led the Saints with seven points,
Michael McIver added six. The Seawolves had three players in double
figures including Carl Arts who had a game high 19 points and seven
rebounds.
“It was a tough night,” said head coach Keith
Cooper. “We started slow against a very good team. We couldn’t get into
any offensive rhythm, partially a credit to UAA and partially a factor
of our guys learning how to play in that kind of physical game.
Hopefully this was a good lesson for some of our younger players on what
it takes to beat a good team at this level.”
The Saints, now 1-1 in conference, are on the road
next week as they head to Bellingham to take on the Western Washington
Vikings Thursday night.
