Men’s Basketball: Saints just miss win against CSUDH
November 24, 2007
Los Angeles, CA – A couple of missed jumpers and a
late turnover kept Saint Martin’s down by two in the final seconds
against Cal State Dominguez Hills as the Toros picked up the 72-67
victory Saturday on the final day of the CSULA Thanksgiving Classic.
The Saints were down by two, 69-67, with 2:17 left
to play. With the clock winding down neither team could sink a shot. SMU
had the ball with 30 seconds left to play but CSUDH forced a turnover
with 13 seconds to go forcing the Saints to foul.
Jonathan Toliver made both free throws to give the
Toros a four point advantage. Saint Martin’s got off one shot with two
seconds left but it was no good and Dominguez Hills picked up the win.
“This was really a good game that came right down to
the end. Our kids played well and we gave ourselves a good chance to win
at the end we just didn’t get a chance to convert like we needed to,”
said head coach Keith Cooper. “We defended really well, did a lot of
good things and improved.”
Bill Richardson had 15 points and nine rebounds to
lead the Saints. Jake Linton added 14 points and six assists. Blake
Poole came off the bench to pick up 10 points.
Saint Martin’s outshot the Toros in field goal,
three-point and free throw percentage but had 27 turnovers to CSUDH’s
16.
The Saints head to Colorado next weekend to take
part in the Chuck Stephens Classic hosted by Colorado State – Pueblo.
