Men’s Basketball: Saints stay on top in GNAC

Seattle, WA (January 13) – Saint Martin’s battled
with Seattle University to secure a 74-64 victory and stay the only
unbeaten team in conference play Saturday night at the Connelly Center.
The game was close the entire first half with the
Redhawks able to maintain a lead. Down by eight with 2:09 left in the
first half the Saints got two free throws by Jake Linton and two by
Stephon Harris to pull within four going into the break.
Coming back from the break the Saints tied the game
39-39 with 14:20 to go. The two teams continued to battle back and
forth. With the score tied again 57-57 Linton hit a jumper to break up
the tie and start what would be a 16-5 run by the Saints to put them
ahead by 11 with only seconds left in the game.
The Saints got a game high 23 points and seven
rebounds from Brendan Campbell who was 9-15 from the field and 4-4 from
the line. Linton posted 20 points, hitting 6-12 and making 7-8 free
throws. Harris added 10 points, completing every shot he took on the
night as he went 3-3 from the field and 4-4 from the line.
David White led the Redhawks with 14 points and 8
rebounds. Sam Kirby and Chris Gweth both added 12 points.
Saint Martin’s took advantage of the line going
26-32 (81.3%) while the Redhawks were only at the line 17 times and only
made 13 shots. The Saints also forced Seattle U into 22 turnovers.
The Saints are back home this week as they face the
University of Alaska Anchorage Thursday night in the second game of a
women’s and men’s double header at the SMU Pavilion.
