Men’s Basketball: Saints lose close game to Hawaii Pacific
December 1, 2006
Honolulu, HI (November 30) - The Saint Martin’s
men’s basketball team fell just short of a win losing to Hawaii Pacific
University 65-60 Thursday night at Mid-Pacific Institute.
SMU jumped out early 13-8 but the Seawolves came
back to tie it up and take the lead 18-15 with 9:40 left in the first
half. HPU maintained their lead throughout the half and went into the
break up 37-30.
The Saints battled back in the second half taking
the lead a total of three times. The Seawolves tied the game 55-55 with
2:48 to go. They took a four point lead on two made free throws and a
layin by Deonte Johnson, 59-55. SMU was able to pull within one on a
three pointer by Jake Linton. That was as close as the Saints would get
as the Seawolves capitalized on their free throws to take the win.
Greg O’Neal led the Saints with 16 points on the
night. Brendan Campbell had 15 points and 12 rebounds. Stephon Harris
added 12 points as well as 10 rebounds.
The Saints get set to face Chaminade University
tonight in the last game of their transpacific road trip.
