Men’s Basketball: Saints ink three to national letters of intent

November 30, 2006

Lacey, WA – Saint Martin’s men’s basketball head coach Keith Cooper has announced the signing of three high school seniors. Included in the recruiting class are Sam Glasgow, Michael Ognoskie Jr., and Nick Smith.

Glasgow, a guard out of Cleveland High School in Portland Oregon, averaged 15.3 points his junior year and was named second-team All-Portland Interscholastic League. He was also selected team MVP, team captain and won the Scholar Athlete Achievement Award.

“Sam is a good offensive minded player who can not only score but has a good feel for the game,” said Cooper. “He is an excellent student and will be a good compliment to our returning guards.”

Ognoskie is a forward from Centralia High School. This past year he averaged 4.5 points per game and 4.0 rebounds and was voted Most Inspirational. In 2005 he played at Sumner High School where he averaged 11.9 points and 4 rebounds as well as receiving the Captain’s Award.

“With the combination of Tyler Nixon and Mike, we will stay strong at the small forward position despite the loss of Stephon Harris,” explained Cooper. “Mike is a high energy player with a good upside and work ethic. He will give us energy on offense and defense similar to Tyler Nixon’s role now.”

Smith, a point guard from Tumwater High School, averaged 14 points, 6 assists and 4 rebounds per game his junior year. He was named to the first-team all-Pac-9 along with the all-Area team. Smith also received academic all-league honors.

“Nick is the top high school point guard we wanted because he is a tough, competitive, scrappy player much like Jake Linton,” said Cooper. “He comes out of a well coached program that places an emphasis on defense and hard work, similar to us. He will be a good four year player for us.”

“We have added depth in ability and character,” added Cooper. “All three are good fits for our program and we are fortunate to have them sign early. We will sign two or three more players in the spring but this is a great start for another good recruiting class.”
