Saints earn numerous Player-of-the-Week honors

Lacey, WA – Saint Martin’s had five athletes post
great performances this week to earn Great Northwest Athletic Conference
Player-of-the-Week recognition.
Nate Baker was named Player-of-the-Week in baseball
batting .538 in the Saints four game series with Cal State Monterey Bay.
He was 7-13 and drew four walks.
Co-Pitcher-of-the-Week, Tip Wonhoff, posted a strong
eight inning outing against Monterey Bay. He gave up only one run on
four hits and didn’t walk a batter in the 5-1 win on Sunday. Wonhoff
made a total of three appearances in the series giving up just two runs
in 11 innings. He didn’t walk a single batter and struck out eight.
John Riak was acknowledged for his performance at
the Husky Classic as he shares track and field co-Athlete-of-the-Week
honors with Michael Dean of Western Washington. Riak ran a GNAC record
and provisional national qualifying time of 14:46.95 in the 5000 meter
race, beating the GNAC record of 14:50.02 set earlier this winter.
Jake Linton and Jamey Gelhar both received honorable
mention for their efforts on the basketball court this week. Linton
scored a career-high 30 points in a loss to Central Washington. In a two
game split he posted 53 points and 15 assists. Linton made 17-29 shots
and was 8-12 from the three.
Gelhar had 35 points as the Saints split two homes
games against regionally ranked teams defeating Northwest Nazarene and
nearly knocking off Seattle Pacific. She was 18-21 from the line and
pulled down nine boards. Gelhar continues to lead the conference in free
throw percentage at 90.1 percent.
