Baseball: Schoeneberg earns weekly GNAC honor
February 19, 2008
Lacey, WA – Saint Martin’s Shane Schoeneberg was
named as the Great Northwest Athletic Conference baseball
Player-of-the-Week for his outstanding performance in the Saints’
opening series of the season.
Schoeneberg had three homeruns including a pair of
grand slams while driving in 11 runs as SMU spilt a pair of games
against Cal State Monterey Bay.
He had eight hits in 16 at bats with four singles,
one triple and three four-baggers to finish the series with a 1.188
slugging percentage. He also walked twice and stole two bases.
“Shane had an excellent weekend, not a lot of
players have had grand slams on back to back days not to mention out of
the leadoff spot. I was very surprised that they pitched to him in his
fourth at bat of the third game,” said head coach Joe Dominiak. “Shane’s
a good kid and a good athlete. He’s paid his dues and it’s paying off
for him now.”
