Baseball: Saints down Warriors

Lacey, WA – Saint Martin’s got 14 hits including
four from Nate Baker on their way to a 9-7 victory over Cal State
Stanislaus Friday afternoon at Saints Field.
Baker went 4-4 in the game with two triples, a
double, and a single and was hit by a pitch.
The Saints scored first in the game picking up one
run in the third on a single by Adam Siler and added one more in the
fifth.
The Warriors led off the top of the sixth with a hit
batsman and then got five consecutive hits including a double by Adam
Fonville to score four runs. They picked up two more on a groundout and
an error to take a 6-2 lead.
SMU answered in the bottom of the inning as the
Saints batted around and scored seven runs. They picked up the first run
on a sacrifice fly by Seth Salinas and the second on a groundout by Maki
Smith. They then put together a two-out rally; Baker tripled, Siler
walked and Shane Schoeneberg reached on an error by the third baseman
which scored Baker. O’Neill singled loading the bases and Craig Yuhas
got a base hit to bring in two. Curtis Thibault, who led off the inning,
hit a two RBI double putting the Saints back on top 9-6.
Stanislaus was able to get one more run in the
seventh on a groundout by Adam Kubo but it wasn’t enough.
Thibault went 2-3 with two RBI in the game while
O’Neill was 3-5 and scored a run.
Andrew Neisinger picked up the win throwing two and
a third innings and giving up just one run. Nick Bolthouse started on
the mound for the Saints going five innings, allowing just three earned
runs and striking out three. Noah Palacios, who came in for CSUS in the
sixth, took the loss.
The two teams will play two more games of their four
game series tomorrow starting at noon at Saints Field.
