Baseball: Saints wrap-up play at Guardian Tournament

The Saints played four games on the final two days
of the Guardian Plumbing, Heating and AC Tournament in Lewiston, ID
posting a 1-3 record falling to host Lewis-Clark twice, Missouri Western
once and defeating Western Oregon once.
Saint Martin’s 0, Lewis-Clark 12
Lewis-Clark used two pitchers to shut out the Saints
in a seven inning game on Friday afternoon. The Saints had five hits in
the loss. The Warriors posted 17 hits on the day including three each by
Beau Mills and Zach Evangelho. Mills had three double and also drove in
five runs. Brett Efaw was tagged with the loss.
Missouri Western 6, Saint Martin’s 5
The Saints led 5-3 after six innings but Missouri
Western was able to put runs on the board in the seventh and again in
the eight to tie the game and force extra innings. The Griffons loaded
the bases in the top of the 10th on two singles and a walk. Then Pat
Spellmeyer drew the walk to force in the winning run. The Saints were
unable to put anything together in the bottom of the inning.
Tip Wonhoff started on the mound for the Saints
going a solid eight innings allowing just three earned runs.
Maki Smith drove in two runs for the Saints. Nate
Baker and Curtis Thibault each had two hits in the game.
Western Oregon 4, Saint Martin’s 14
Baker hit a pair of home runs and drove in six runs
to help power the Saints past the Wolves. Western Oregon score first
going up 3-0 in the top of the third. The Saints got two on the board in
the bottom of the inning and then posted a five spot in the fourth,
including a two run triple by Adam Siler, to give the Saints a 7-3 lead.
The Wolves tied the game with four runs in the sixth
but Baker snapped the tie with a two run blast. He then keyed a five run
eighth inning with a three run shot.
Andrew Neisinger blanked the Wolves over the final
three innings allowing just two hits to earn the save and secure the win
for Pat Capone who allowed 10 hits and four earned runs through six
innings.
Saint Martin’s posted 14 hits on the day. Smith and
Siler each had three hits while Andrew Salinas and Vince Maughan added
two hits each.
Lewis-Clark 11, Saint Martin’s 5
The Warriors posted nine runs through the first six
innings forcing the Saints to play catch-up. Saint Martin’s posted four
runs in the bottom of the sixth on a three run double by Thibault. Siler
had a sacrifice fly to score the Saints final run in the ninth.
The Warriors outhit the Saints 11-5. Catcher Jessie
Mier went 5-5 in game with a double and four RBIs. Smith, Craig Yuhas,
Siler, Salinas, and Thibault were o\the only Saints to get hits off of
LCSC.
Kevin Jones threw three innings for the Saints
giving up three earned runs on three hits and was hit with the loss. The
Warriors used six pitchers to stop the Saints. Starter Chris Schwinden
picked up the win.
The Saints head to Nampa, ID next weekend for their
first conference games against Northwest Nazarene.
