Baseball: Saints fall to Cal State Monterey Bay

Lacey, WA – Saint Martin’s lost to Cal State
Monterey Bay 10-5 in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday at Saints
Field. Game two was suspended because of darkness tied 5-5 in the ninth
inning and will be completed on Sunday.
The Otters rallied three times to take the lead from
the Saints. They went up 4-3 in the fifth scoring two runs on two hits.
The Saints tied the game 4-4 with one run in their half of the inning
only to see the Otters put two more on the board in the top of the
sixth. SMU was only able to get one back in the bottom half of the
inning when Maki Smith scored on a base hit to right field by Craig
Yuhas, leaving the Otters up 6-5.
Both teams were held scoreless through the seventh
and eighth but the Otters came out swinging in the ninth. They put up
four runs on four hits including a bases clearing triple by Brian Trump.
Trump also had two doubles two runs scored. Gerald
Rommel went 4-5 with four single and two RBIs.
Nate Baker and Curtis Thibault had two hit each for
the Saints. Vince Maughan got a double, the Saints only extra base hit,
and scored two runs.
The two teams will face off in the final game of the
four game series tomorrow following the completion of game three.
