Baseball: Saints World Series ready to begin
October
6, 2006
Lacey, WA – Another annual Saint Martin’s World
Series gets underway this week as the Saints wrap-up their “fall ball.”
The best three out of five tournament will start this Saturday at 11:00
am and will continue next week with game 2 on Monday, game three on
Wednesday, and if necessary games 4 and 5 on Friday and Saturday.
Once again it’ll be the Red team vs. the Black team
in a tough inter-squad match-up. Leading the way for the Red team is
catcher Richard O’Neill. Joining him is third baseman Shane Schoeneberg,
who is back on the field after being sidelined due to Tommy John surgery
last season. Vince Maughan will start at second, while Ty Kuehl has been
slotted as the designated hitter. Ezzard Wilkins will be in left and
Tanner Gronowski who was out for most of last season with a hamstring
tear will get the start in center. Junior transfer Craig Yuhas will get
the call in right while brothers Andrew and Seth Salinas will take the
field at first and short respectively. Matt Marcoe will be the Red teams
only utility player.
The Red team’s pitching staff has three returning
players and boasts a lot of new faces. Brett Efaw, Michael Shelstad and
Kevin Jones are back to help their team. Additional pitchers include
transfers Andrew Speer, Scott Leshner, Pat Capone, Andrew Neisinger and
freshman Josh Long.
On the roster for the Black team is first baseman
and pitcher Adam Siler. Nate Baker takes the reins in center while Maki
Smith starts in right. Curtis Thibault is back at short with sophomores
Sean Dougherty and Ryan Brilhante are slated go as catcher and left
fielder. Newcomers include second baseman Andy Cole, third bagger Mickey
Letofsky, and designated hitter Jake Orosco. Rounding out the lineup are
utility guys Jake Gamble and Patrick Johnson.
Anchoring the pitching staff for the Black team is
senior Tip Wonhoff. Also back on the mound are Nick Bolthouse, Randy Fox
and Nick Bronowski. Making his first appearance in the Saints Series is
Anthony Andrews.
Be sure to come out, support your Saints and find
out who has what it takes to win it all.
