Family: Wife, Joyce; Children, Susan, Brian, Ronald and Richard; 10 grandchildren.

Education: Ph.D., Organic Chemistry, University of Washington; B.S., Chemistry, Saint Martin's College, 1953.

Professional Background: Thirty-five years as an educator at Seattle University, having served as dean of Matteo Ricci College at Seattle University, dean of Department of Chemistry, professor of Chemistry and the Honors Program. Career-long involvement in bridging the gap between humanities and sciences, as well as promoting integrative, interdisciplinary education at the college and high school levels. Former research Chemist for Shell Development Co.

Boards/Volunteer Activities: Dean's Council, Seattle U.; Education Committee, Seattle Opera Association; Seattle U. representative, Washington Center for the Improvement of Undergraduate Education; Archdiocesan Diaconate Board; Pacific Science Center Foundation; Chairman, Puget Sound Section of American Chemical Society.

Passion in Life: "Living the questions" with my wife and fellow seekers; gathering with the family.

Hobbies: Reading, traveling, singing, crabbing.

Why Saint Martin's?: Having experienced and loved the educational traditions of both the Benedictines and the Jesuits, and having moved from Seattle to Olympia in 1999, I am pleased to have the opportunity to help here at home. I am impressed with the continuing growth in numbers and quality at Saint Martin's. Moreover, I like the people here and enjoy working with them!

Favorite Saint Martin's Program or Personality: Fr. Bede Ernsdorff, legendary teacher, monk, homilist and mentor. Truly, he was an inspiration to many!
